NEW YORK – As a student at Harvard Law School, then-bachelor Barack Obama’s practice of wearing a gold band on his wedding-ring finger puzzled his colleagues.
Now, newly published photographs of Obama from the 1980s show that the ring Obama wore on his wedding-ring finger as an unmarried student is the same ring Michelle Robinson put on his finger at the couple’s wedding ceremony in 1992.
Moreover, according to Arabic-language and Islamic experts, the ring Obama has been wearing for more than 30 years is adorned with the first part of the Islamic declaration of faith, the Shahada: “There is no god except Allah.”

The first of the Five Pillars of Islam is the shahada (Arabic, "testimony" or "witness"). The shahada is the Muslim profession of faith, expressing the two simple, fundamental beliefs that make one a Muslim:
La ilaha illa Allah wa-Muhammad rasul Allah.
There is no god but Allah and Muhammad is the prophet of Allah.
Sincere recitation of this confession of faith before at least two Muslims is the sole requirement for those who wish to join the Muslim community. It represents acceptance not only of Allah and his prophet, but of the entirety of Islam. As one of the Pillars, the shahada must be recited correctly aloud with full understanding and internal assent at least once in every Muslim's lifetime.
The shahada is also recited in the muzzein's call to prayer, included in the salat (daily ritual prayer) and incorporated in Sufi contemplative prayer. It is also recited in the moments before death. From the shahada are derived the other fundamental doctrines of Islam: angels, the Quran and the Bible, the prophets, and the Day of Judgment.

Barack Obama has said that ‘AK-47s belong in the hands of soldiers’, even though the rifle, most associated with terrorism and communism, is not issued to the US military or any of its Western allies.
Speaking to the National Urban League in New Orleans, Obama said that he believed in the right to bear arms but ‘a lot of gun owners would agree that AK-47s belong in the hands of soldiers, not in the hands of criminals, that they belong on the battlefield of war, not on the streets of our cities’.
The US military’s primary rifle is the M-16. An AR-15, the civilian variant of the M-16, was allegedly used by James Holmes to killed 12 people and wound 58 people at a screening of the film ‘Dark Right’ in a cinema in Aurora, Colorado this month.

The New Yorker magazine has created a political storm with the publication of a cartoon cover that depicts the Democratic candidate and possible American president Barack Obama looking like Osama Bin Laden next to his wife Michelle Obama with a machine gun strapped to her back and looking very militant.
The cartoon on the cover of the July 21, 2008 edition of the New Yorker magazine is called "The Politics of Fear" and drawn by the illustrator Barry Blitt. One would expect conservative media to publish similar images, but the New Yorker is considered a liberal publication.
Cartoonist Barry Blitt shows the Obamas in the oval office looking like a pair of terrorists. Barack is dressed in traditional Muslim clothing with a turban and sandals. Michelle Obama is wearing camouflaged military clothes, army boots, a belt of bullets, an AK-47, and a giant afro hair style. SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Thousands of protesters fired up by President Donald Trump’s expected announcement to shrink two national monuments in Utah rallied in Salt Lake City on Saturday, just two days ahead of his planned visit.
Crowds converged on the steps of the Utah State Capitol to denounce Trump’s decision, many chanting and holding signs with messages such as “Protect Wild Utah.” Native American groups, some in tribal dress, danced or formed drum circles.
Speakers who addressed the throngs of demonstrators included a state lawmaker and an official with the Navajo Nation.
State Rep. Patrice Arent, a Democrat from Millcreek, accused Trump of coming to “wreak destruction on a land he knows basically nothing about,” the Salt Lake Tribune reported .
Navajo Nation Attorney General Ethel Branch vowed said the president should see these monuments for himself.
“I want him to visit Bears Ears before he takes any action,” Branch said.
Roughly 5,000 people showed up to the rally, according to the Utah Highway Patrol. The demonstration remained relatively peaceful.
Trump is scheduled to visit the state on Monday, when he will announce a plan to reduce the size of Bears Ears and Staircase-Escalante National Monuments by nearly two-thirds. Those monuments were designated by former presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton, respectively.
Trump’s move would be the first such act by a president in half a century. Environmentalists and tribal leaders have decried the decision as illegal and an affront to Native Americans.
Leaked documents obtained by The Associated Press show that Trump plans to shrink Bears Ears National Monument by nearly 85 percent and reduce Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument by almost half.
The plan would cut the total amount of land in the state’s red rock country protected under monument status from more than 3.2 million acres (5,000 square miles) to about 1.2 million acres (1,875 square miles).
Trump has told Republican Sen. Orrin Hatch and other Utah officials that he will follow the recommendation of Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke to shrink both monuments.
